Characteristics of cultured lens epithelium.

چکیده
A number of lines of rabbit lens epithelium have been groion in large-scale continuous tissue culture for periods of 1 to 2 years. The cells exhibit a marked degree of contact inhibition on the monolayer, suggesting that this phenomenon may play a role in the regulation of cell division in vivo. The availability of large numbers of homogeneous cells has permitted determination of the life cycle of such populations. Some ultrastructural and biochemical characteristics of these cells are presented.

The Histological Characteristics of Cultured Oral Epithelium in Different Culture Conditions
Background: This study was undertaken to establish the characterization of cultured oral mucosal epithelium and introducing them as an alternative source for reconstruction of ocular surface disease. Methods: Human oral epithelial cells were cultured on simple media (DMEM/HF12) as control and co-cultured on mitomycin C-treated 3T3 feeder layer, on the amniotic membrane (AM) without nitrocellulo...
متن کاملHistoanatomical study of the lens and ciliary body in ostrich eye
In the present study, the lenses and ciliary bodies of 20 ostrich eyes were studied macroscopically and microscopically. The histological slides were studied after staining by hematoxylin and eosin, Verhoeff, Van Gieson, and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS). Posterior surface of lens was more convex than its anterior surface. The average lens diameter and thickness were respectively measured as 1.43 ...
متن کاملEnhancement of differentiation of human lens epithelium in tissue culture by changes in cell-substrate adhesion.
Differentiation of human lens epithelial (HLE) cells cultured in vitro was drastically accelerated when the cells were cultured on cell-substrate adhesion-free surfaces. Spontaneous differentiation of the lens epithelial cells in monolayer cultures could be recognized with the appearance of lentoid bodies after 40-50 days if maintained without further passage. Although dissociated HLE cells rec...
متن کاملInsulin growth factor and epidermal growth factor trigger mitosis in lenses cultured in a serum-free medium.
The mitogenicity of insulin, insulin growth factor (IGF), and epidermal growth factor (EGF) was evaluated on rabbit lenses cultured in medium KEI-4. IGF, the most highly purified of the insulin-like growth factors was a potent mitogen for mammalian lens epithelia cells. IGF and EGF triggered cell proliferation throughout the normally amitotic central and pre-equatorial region of the epithelium....
متن کاملDeterminative role of Wnt signals in dorsal iris-derived lens regeneration in newt eye
We have previously shown that lens regeneration from the pigmented epithelium of the dorsal iris in the adult newt eye proceeds in two steps after lens removal or intraocular FGF2 injection. The FGF2-dependent proliferation of iris pigmented epithelium and activation of early lens genes that occur over the entire circumference of the iris comprise the first step, while subsequent dorsally confi...
